The Greene family collection includes biographical information, correspondence, brochures, maps and newspaper clippings. The material documents the vision, foresight and determination of the Greene family in the formation of the Canyon Tours, Inc. The Greene family collection includes biographical information, correspondence, brochures, maps and newspaper clippings. The material documents the vision, foresight and determination of the Greene family in the formation of the Canyon Tours, Inc. The Biographical/Family series consists of biographical and auto-biographical information found in newspaper and magazine articles as well as family papers. The Business Development series consists of deeds, purchase agreements, correspondence and magazine and newspaper articles, dealing with Art and Bill Greene's entrepreneurial skills; the purchase of Marble Canyon Lodge, and the building of Cliff Dwellers Lodge and Wahweap Lodge and Marina. Includes additional information about the formation of Canyon Tours, Inc., the building of Deer Valley Airport, and numerous other enterprises. The Tourism series reflects brochures conducive to bringing families to the Arizona and to the Lake Powell area. The Correspondence series contains correspondence from Senators Barry Goldwater, Carl Hayden, and Arizona Governors Ernest W. McFarland, Paul Fannin, Jack Williams and Raul H. Castro as well as federal and state officials. Correspondence dealing with the relinquishment of their land is located in federal and state official folders. Some folders contain thank you notes and letters from customers who have enjoyed the Greene family's hospitality at the Wahweap Lodge. The Map series has original maps made by architects and surveyors for the Greene Family enterprises and copies of additional maps of the area. The map series of Box 15 are located in the Map Drawer 15.

Arthur "Art" Hayward Greene, Sr. was born in Telluride, Colorado in 1895. When Art was 18 years old living in Aztec, New Mexico, he was fascinated by the potential of river float trips and began such trips down the San Juan River. Because of his knowledge he was hired by entrepreneurs with mining interests to take them down the San Juan River.
